45 1/2 Day Children-Focused Course
This course provides essential knowledge and practical understanding of the Children Act 1989 and its application in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. It focuses on legal responsibilities, child protection, and ensuring that the child’s best interests remain central to all decisions and care practices.
Course Objectives
- Understand the key principles and purpose of the Children Act 1989.
- Recognise the concept of the child’s welfare being paramount.
- Understand parental responsibility and the roles of carers and professionals.
- Identify the duties of local authorities in protecting and supporting children.
- Understand key sections of the Act, including Section 17 and Section 47.
- Recognise signs of abuse, neglect, and safeguarding concerns.
- Understand thresholds for intervention and child protection procedures.
- Learn how to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Understand the importance of accurate documentation and reporting.
- Promote child-centred and rights-based approaches in care and education.
- Work effectively with families and multi-agency teams.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
- Reflect on professional roles and responsibilities in safeguarding children.

Certification
Participants will receive a Children Act 1989 (Children Focused) Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 1–2 years (in line with organisational policy).
