45 1/2 Day Children-Focused Course
This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to support children living in residential care settings. It focuses on safeguarding, emotional wellbeing, and delivering consistent, nurturing, and child-centred care to promote positive outcomes.
Course Objectives
- Understand the role and purpose of residential care for children and young people.
- Recognise the needs of children in care, including emotional, social, and developmental needs.
- Understand the impact of trauma, loss, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- Develop skills to build trust, stability, and positive relationships.
- Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
- Understand behaviour as communication and respond appropriately.
- Learn strategies to support emotional regulation and resilience.
- Maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate care.
- Understand safeguarding responsibilities and reporting procedures.
- Promote children’s rights, dignity, and inclusion.
- Work effectively with families, carers, and multi-agency teams.
- Develop accurate documentation, care planning, and reporting skills.
- Support positive routines, independence, and life skills development.
Target Audience
This course is suitable for residential care staff, support workers, healthcare professionals, social workers, and anyone working with children and young people in care settings.
Course Format
- Duration: 1/2 Day
- Mode: In-person training only
- Assessment: Case studies, group discussions, and reflective learning
Certification
Participants will receive a Children in Residential Care Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 1–2 years (in line with organisational policy).
