Paediatric Life Support
55 1/2 Day Children-Focused Course
This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in infants and children. It focuses on early intervention, effective resuscitation techniques, and promoting safe, evidence-based care in line with UK guidelines.
Course Objectives
- Understand the principles of paediatric basic life support (BLS).
- Recognise signs of respiratory and cardiac arrest in children and infants.
- Learn how to assess a child using the ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) approach.
- Develop skills in delivering effective CPR for infants and children.
- Understand how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely.
- Learn how to manage choking in infants and children.
- Recognise the importance of early intervention and emergency response.
- Develop confidence in responding to paediatric emergencies.
- Understand infection control and safety considerations during resuscitation.
- Work effectively as part of a team during emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and post-incident reporting.
- Reflect on practice to improve response and patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This course is suitable for healthcare professionals, support workers, teachers, childcare providers, and anyone responsible for the care of infants and children.
Course Format
- Duration: 1/2 Day
- Mode: In-person training only
- Assessment: Practical demonstration, scenario-based exercises, and knowledge checks
Certification
Participants will receive a Paediatric Life Support (PLS) Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 1–2 years (in line with organisational policy).
