This advanced course provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to safely administer nebulised medication, supporting individuals with respiratory conditions and ensuring effective treatment and patient comfort.
Understand the principles of respiratory physiology and airway management.
Learn the purpose and indications for nebuliser therapy.
Identify patients who require nebulisers (e.g. asthma, COPD, respiratory infections).
Gain knowledge of different types of nebuliser devices and medications.
Develop skills in preparing, assembling, and operating nebuliser equipment safely.
Understand how to administer nebulised medication correctly.
Learn how to monitor patient response and recognise improvement or deterioration.
Recognise and manage side effects and complications (e.g. tachycardia, tremors).
Understand infection prevention and equipment cleaning and maintenance.
Develop skills in documentation, escalation, and multidisciplinary communication.
Promote patient comfort, dignity, and adherence to treatment.
This course is suitable for nurses, healthcare assistants, support workers, and clinical staff involved in respiratory care within hospital, residential, and community settings.

Assessment: Practical demonstrations, clinical scenarios, and written assessment
Participants will receive a Nebuliser Therapy Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 2 years (in line with organisational policy).
