This advanced course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to safely manage Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), supporting individuals with respiratory conditions while ensuring effective treatment, monitoring, and patient comfort.
Understand the principles of respiratory physiology and ventilation.
Learn the purpose and indications for Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV).
Identify patients who require NIV (e.g. COPD, respiratory failure, neuromuscular conditions).
Gain knowledge of different NIV modes such as CPAP and BiPAP.
Develop skills in setting up and operating NIV equipment safely.
Understand how to select and fit appropriate masks and interfaces.
Learn how to monitor patient response, oxygen saturation, and comfort levels.
Recognise and manage common complications (e.g. pressure sores, air leaks, intolerance).
Understand infection prevention and equipment cleaning and maintenance.
Develop skills in documentation, escalation, and multidisciplinary communication.
Promote patient dignity, consent, and reassurance during NIV therapy.
This course is suitable for nurses, respiratory therapists, healthcare assistants, and clinical staff involved in respiratory care within hospital, community, or specialist care settings.

Assessment: Practical demonstrations, clinical scenarios, and written assessment
Participants will receive a Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 2 years (in line with organisational policy).
