Understand the principles of nutrition and hydration in health and disease.
Learn how to assess nutritional needs and hydration status.
Recognise signs of malnutrition, dehydration, and related risks.
Gain knowledge of special dietary requirements (e.g. diabetes, dysphagia, cultural diets).
Understand the use of nutrition screening tools such as MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool).
Learn how to support individuals with eating and drinking difficulties.
Develop skills in safe feeding techniques and assistance.
Understand the role of enteral feeding (e.g. PEG feeding) in nutrition support.
Learn how to monitor fluid balance and nutritional intake.
Recognise and manage risks such as choking, aspiration, and weight loss.
Understand how to promote dignity, choice, and independence during mealtimes.
Develop skills in documentation, reporting, and escalation of concerns.
This course is suitable for healthcare assistants, support workers, nurses, senior carers, and clinical staff supporting individuals with nutritional and hydration needs in residential, community, and clinical settings.

Assessment: Practical scenarios, case studies, and written assessment
Participants will receive a Nutrition and Hydration Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 2 years (in line with organisational policy).
