This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to understand and implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), conduct Functional Assessments (FA), and develop effective Safety Plans to support individuals with behaviours of concern in a safe, person-centred way.
Course Objectives
- Understand the principles and values of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
- Learn what Functional Assessment (FA) is and how it informs behaviour support.
- Identify the underlying causes and functions of behaviours of concern.
- Recognise triggers, antecedents, and maintaining factors of behaviour.
- Develop skills to create proactive and reactive PBS strategies.
- Learn how to design and implement effective, person-centred Safety Plans.
- Understand how to reduce risk and promote positive behaviour outcomes.
- Develop skills in observation, data collection, and behaviour monitoring.
- Learn how to respond safely and consistently to incidents.
- Understand the importance of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
- Maintain professional boundaries, dignity, and respect in all interventions.
- Develop accurate documentation, reporting, and review processes.
- Understand the importance of staff wellbeing and reflective practice.
Target Audience
This course is suitable for healthcare professionals, support workers, teachers, social care staff, behavioural practitioners, and safeguarding leads supporting individuals with behaviours of concern.
Course Format
- Duration: 1 Day
- Mode: In-person training only
- Assessment: Case studies, behaviour mapping exercises, and practical planning activities
Certification
Participants will receive a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Functional Assessment & Safety Planning Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 1–2 years (in line with organisational policy).
