This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills to recognise warning signs of self-harm and suicidal behaviour in children and young people, enabling early intervention, safeguarding, and appropriate support.

Recognise early warning signs and risk indicators, including emotional and behavioural changes.
Understand the impact of factors such as trauma, bullying, family issues, social media, and mental health conditions.
Learn how to respond to concerns in a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental manner.
Develop skills in effective communication and active listening with children and young people.
Understand how to assess risk and when to escalate concerns immediately.
Learn safeguarding responsibilities and how to follow correct reporting and referral pathways.
Understand the importance of multi-agency working (schools, healthcare, social services).
Learn how to support children while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Recognise the importance of staff wellbeing and emotional resilience when managing sensitive situations.
This course is suitable for teachers, school staff, healthcare professionals, support workers, social care staff, and safeguarding leads working with children and young people.

Mode: In-person training only
Assessment: Scenario-based discussions, case studies, and reflective learning
Participants will receive a Suicide and Self-Harm Awareness in Children Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
The certification is valid for 1–2 years (in line with organisational policy).
